As part of the 10 Days on the Island Festival, Domain House will be open to the public and act as the backdrop to a number of installations. The catalogue reads:
“A group of noted artists use the building as their ephemeral gallery to consider the concept of nature and culture, traditionally seen as opposites, a divide separating the wild from the tamed.
Guided by curator Noel Frankham, Professor of Art with the University of Tasmania, some of the artists explore the history, characteristics and fabric of Domain House while others respond to the exterior environment.
Artists featured in the exhibition include Lisa Anderson, Lucy Bleach, Patricia Brassington, Lindsay Broughton, Steven Carson, Ruth Frost, Megan Keating, Milan Milojevic, Brigita Ozolins, Geoff Parr, Troy Ruffels, Marie Sierra, David Stephenson, Lucia Usmiani, John Vella, Martin Walch and Paul Zika.”

Mawson Update
Shot from site this morning… orange rail on and artificial surface panels arrived from the USA and ready to install.
Cumulus on the Waterfront.
The Mawson’s Skate (iceskating rink) under construction on Hobart’s Waterfront, getting ready for the Holiday Season. The project involves placement of two relocatable containers (nothing that new there) around a new public artificial skating rink. Because, despite the rumours, its not that cold in Hobart we have folded some metal skins over the containers to resemble ice. Stay tuned for more construction photos.
Investigatory model to test shape and size of the folded metal cladding for two shipping containers as part of Mawson’s Skate. The folded metal, which will be white on the finished project, is crystalline in structure and evocative of ice / snow.
Cumulus are looking for a Graduate Architect to work collaboratively within our Hobart studio for 3 to 5 days per week. Preferably you have experience in a design office (similar to our own), you are skilled with CAD software, and can work as part of a team. Essential for the position is that you love Architecture.
If you would like more information about the position and how you can apply please send an email to Peter Walker at pickme@cumulus-studio.net or phone 0407 819 080. Applications close on Friday 9th November 2012.
As part of Architecture Week this year one of our models appears as a guest in a local bookshop amongst the architecture books… seems appropriate. See if you can spot it in your travels.
Emerging Architect Prize
The Emerging Architect Prize was introduced by the Australian Institue of Architects to acknowledge an individual emerging architect’s contribution to architectural practice, education, design excellence and community involvement, which advances the professions role within the public arena. For 2012 the Tasmanian Prize was awarded to Peter Walker.
